Finding Profitable Products to Sell on Amazon

As Amazon Sellers ourselves, the SupplySpy team can relate to the problems and inefficiencies sellers face when trying to find profitable products to sell. Below are some of the common issues we faced when starting out as a wholesaler and trying to do the research manually.

Common Amazon Seller Issues

Where to begin?

Hard to know where to begin your research. Which brand or products are selling well?

What to sell?

Once you find potential brands or products that are selling well, you will have to manually check if those brands are not sold by Amazon or the Brand owner directly.

You don't want to compete with Amazon or the brand owner of the product.

How to buy?

After you have identified Brands and products that are selling well and are not sold by Amazon or the Brand owner, you will have to manually search for suppliers that sell those products.

How to make profit?

When you have finally found suppliers and obtained a list of products they supply, you will need to determine the specific products that are selling well and are actually profitable to sell on Amazon.

To do this successfully, you will need to consider many factors; such as, supplier price, fba fees, and shipping costs to name a few.

How to Use SupplySpy to Easily Find Profitable Products

Let’s go through an example of how easy it is to find potential profitable products to sell on amazon by utilizing SupplySpy. In this example, we will use an Amazon seller who has chosen wholesale as their product sourcing method.

First, choose the “Popular Brands” tool from the user dashboard.

popular brands

Next, we will set filters on the left to target brands that meet a desired criteria.

Let’s say we are looking for a brand within any category that has at least 20 popular products, no less than 5 average sellers per listing with a minimum of 3 fba sellers. For this example, we will keep the % of listings with Amazon as a seller below 30%, leave average product price and average product weight filters empty. Lets click “Search” and see the brands that qualify for these filters. (1)

popular brands filter

For this example, we have discovered 182 brands that meet the criteria for the filters we have applied. We can now sort the brands by column to get them in the desired order of importance. We will sort by number of popular products starting from highest (2). We see the first brand when sorting this way, is Nintendo. Considering this is a well-known name brand, we will skip this for now as we are just starting out. The next brand we see is Source Naturals and can quickly see the following data:

Popular Products:
701
Avg Product Rating:
4.12
Avg Product Price:
$18.23
Avg Product Weight:
1.72 lb
Avg # of Sellers Per Listing:
10.9
Avg # of FBA Sellers Per Listing:
3.9
% of Listings with Amazon as a seller:
18.11%

in this window you can see common Amazon sellers that sell this brand, to make sure that the Brand itself is not one of them.

Next, we will want to identify what these popular products are and get more information on them. We will do this by clicking on the number within the popular products column. This brings us to a page that has popular products related to the specific brand. Here you can learn more about the products of this brand for example, the type of products they have, product weight, and prices to name a few.

At this point, we will spend time going through these products to identify if there are enough products we are interested in, to justify approaching the brand or supplier(s).

Now that we have identified a promising brand for the desired search criteria, we will click on the brand name (3) from the popular brands tool to gain more information.

Brand details page

popular brands filter

On this page, we will see the brands general information that includes the following:

  • Brand Name
  • Description
  • URL
  • Phone Number(s)
  • Address
  • Suppliers (Clickable to retrieve contact information)

At this point we will reach out to the suppliers and/or brand to see if we can gain a product price list from them. Once we receive this list, we will upload it to the Bulk Analyzer Tool. Upon upload, this tool will perform automated calculations that will incorporate all costs including the supplier costs, for us to easily identify which products will be profitable from this supplier. The Bulk Analyzer Tool will also provide metrics on each product that will show the products sales history so that we make an informed decision with each product. After going through this data, we will decide which products we want to sell and purchase them from the supplier.

As you can see in this example, SupplySpy tools streamline what is commonly known as a very inefficient process for Amazon sellers. Not only do these tools facilitate efficiencies for sellers but they also allow the seller to make educated purchasing decisions thus increasing the chances of selling only profitable products.

Finding the right product(s) to sell is one of the most crucial parts to the success of an Amazon seller. Don’t let inefficiencies and high risk purchasing decisions get in the way of the success of your business. Get SupplySpy TODAY!

Don’t take our word for it

Here are some words from our customers and what they think of us.

I have been selling products on Amazon for over three years now and am really happy the SupplySpy team created their software suite. I used to have a manual process that was good, but still very inefficient. I have replaced my process with a subscription to SupplySpy and am extremely happy with the product so far

Jessica L. Intermediate Amazon Seller
As someone just starting out as an Amazon Seller, I quickly realized I needed a tool to help me find products that had a higher chance of selling. After doing some research, I decided to use SupplySpy and am really satisfied so far. The Popular Brands tool helped me find products to invest in and now I am starting to have transactions on Amazon.

Being a successful Amazon Seller is not easy! It takes a lot of hard work, time, and patience. Even though SupplySpy offers some great tools, that help make this process easier, it does not guarantee success. I always tell people I know who are just starting out, that no matter what, your success depends on you.
